Tips on Planning a Vacation to Cancun
If you’ve been dreaming of taking a vacation to Cancun, you’ve probably put quite a bit of thought into it. You’ve saved up your money, and you’ve saved up your vacation time.
Now…your vacation is just a month away, let’s say… are you ready to go?
Well, you’ve been saving your money, but have you made your travel arrangements yet? Hotel prices - not to mention tour prices, and even food prices in local eateries - go up every year, it’s just the nature of the beast. If you’ve been saving your money based on last year’s numbers, you might find that you’re a little short. Best to run the numbers again, to ensure that you’ve budgeted enough to meet your needs.
You’ve probably got an idea of what you want to do in Cancun, whether it’s just lying on the beach or swimming in the surf…perhaps a spot of golf. There’s a lot more to do, of course, snorkeling or scuba diving, parasailing, horseback riding, and so on.
Although there are a few Mayan ruins on the island of Cancun itself, to really get the full impact of that magnificent lost civilization, you need to go inland, to the ruins of Chichen Itza, or to Coba and Tulum – two locations with much to see, and ruins that are still being excavated.
If you take a package tour to Cancun, trips to these sites are usually included. Make sure you pack jeans and stout walking shoes, as these sites are surrounded by jungle. (When visiting these sites, don’t forget that they are archaeological sites - don’t attempt to chip away any rocks for souvenirs!)
There are several books on Cancun - travel guides such as Fodors and Frommers, and others such as Cancun’s User’s Guide, or even What’s Cheap And Free in Cancun and the Yucatan!
The best way to plan for your trip to Cancun is to read up as much information as you can on the subject, so that you know the place like the back of your hand before you get there. Then, once you get there, you can relax and enjoy it!
