Tips on Planning a Vacation to Cancun

If you’ve been dreaming of taking a vacation to Cancun, you’ve probably put quite a bit of thought into it. You’ve saved up your money, and you’ve saved up your vacation time.

Now…your vacation is just a month away, let’s say… are you ready to go?

Well, you’ve been saving your money, but have you made your travel arrangements yet? Hotel prices - not to mention tour prices, and even food prices in local eateries - go up every year, it’s just the nature of the beast. If you’ve been saving your money based on last year’s numbers, you might find that you’re a little short. Best to run the numbers again, to ensure that you’ve budgeted enough to meet your needs.

You’ve probably got an idea of what you want to do in Cancun, whether it’s just lying on the beach or swimming in the surf…perhaps a spot of golf. There’s a lot more to do, of course, snorkeling or scuba diving, parasailing, horseback riding, and so on.

Although there are a few Mayan ruins on the island of Cancun itself, to really get the full impact of that magnificent lost civilization, you need to go inland, to the ruins of Chichen Itza, or to Coba and Tulum – two locations with much to see, and ruins that are still being excavated.

If you take a package tour to Cancun, trips to these sites are usually included. Make sure you pack jeans and stout walking shoes, as these sites are surrounded by jungle. (When visiting these sites, don’t forget that they are archaeological sites - don’t attempt to chip away any rocks for souvenirs!)

There are several books on Cancun - travel guides such as Fodors and Frommers, and others such as Cancun’s User’s Guide, or even What’s Cheap And Free in Cancun and the Yucatan!

The best way to plan for your trip to Cancun is to read up as much information as you can on the subject, so that you know the place like the back of your hand before you get there. Then, once you get there, you can relax and enjoy it!

Experience Real Fun with Vacation Packages to Cancun Mexico

Cancun is the most popular tourist destination in Mexico. Indeed, Cancun is known as the “Spring Break” capital of the world. But don’t let that title fool you. For much of the time, Cancun is quite a wholesome resort island, where there is plenty of family fun stuff for you to do - from horseback riding to swimming to golfing.

Cancun is actually an island – with Cancun City located on the mainland, just across the lagoon, a city of 250,000 people that grew up in the last twenty years around this popular location.

While there is plenty to do in Cancun, therefore, you don’t need to stay there for your entire vacation. If you’re interested in Mayan ruins, do some research on getting a vacation package that includes tours to the various sites - most of the well known ones are within 200 miles of Cancun - Chichen Itza for example is 117 miles west of Cancun, about a three hour drive.

A vacation package is typically the way to go in a place like Cancun. You pay one price for several events and activities, and are chauffeured (by bus or by car) to the sites you’ve chosen to see. It’s a structured way to run your vacation, and will allow you to pack in more sight-seeing than you normally would…unless you’re an experienced traveller to that part of the country.

In order to do research for the best vacation package for you, it’s best to deal with those travel sites that deal specifically with Cancun, or Mexico as a whole, rather than ones that cover every city of the globe - as they are a “jack of all trades, but a master of none.” By dealing with people who’s business is specifically to know Cancun and its environs, you will do much better.

Before booking your trip, check out various message boards and review sites, to make sure the hotel you’ll be using has a good rating and good service (independent of what the tour package says). This way, you’ll be double-checking and verifying your tour provider, which will ensure that you have a stress-free vacation once you get to Cancun.

Cancun Special Vacation Packages

Cancun, Mexico is famous for its white, sandy beaches and brilliant blue waters. But Cancun has much more to offer than just lying on the beach soaking up the rays, or swimming through the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean.

There are really two parts to Cancun - the original island, which was a mere fishing village until the early 1970s, when it was turned into a resort for tourists, and now is one large row of hotels (the Zona Hotela), with beaches, a golf course, and so on. Mayan ruins dot the island, and can be visited at any time. The island is separated by the mainland by a lagoon, and a brand new city, only two decades old, Cancun City, is located there, where the locals live who work in the resort area.

Cancun is the tourist destination in Mexico - 20% of Mexico’s tourist income comes from this location, and everything is done to ensure that the tourist has an excellent time here.

From Cancun, many package tours to the interior of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo are available - there are many other Mayan sites relatively close by, such as Chichen Itza (117 miles west) or Tulum (one of the best preserved Mayan sites on the coast), Coba or Uxmal (two ruined cities, very popular tourist locations).

If you’re interested in Mayan ruins, therefore, your special vacation package can be acquired from related companies which offers trips to Chichen Itza, both Tulum and Coba, and Rio Lagartos and Ek Balam. What about scuba diving? Try a company such as Scuba Cancun.

However, just because we suggest these two sites, do your own research - check out several businesses that offer such tours, and make sure you talk to the Better Business Bureau to ensure that no complaints have been made against them.

The main thing about going to Cancun is knowing when to go. One of the most popular time for students is “Spring Break” - if you don’t want to find yourself indundated with young men and women with only one thing on their minds - to party - you might want to avoid Cancun during late February through early April, but most particularly in March!
